Do what you like, like what you do.

Happy New Year's Eve!! Moose and I are settling in for a very dull, unproductive New Year's Eve celebration. Matt is back on call tonight and if I had to guess I'd say he's going to get slammed. He's on trauma call and I'm sure there will be plenty of incoming patients to keep him occupied all night. That leads me to the name of this post. I borrowed this saying from one of my favorite brands, Life is Good. I may not be a huge fan of Matt's work hours, but he is happy. It's a good thing we followed this motto in life because otherwise we'd be two unhappy engineers instead of a sleep deprived intern and a teacher. Granted he'd have weekends off and we would have had a more stable life over the past few months, but he wouldn't have been happy. So, for both of our sakes, I'm glad that he chose to "do what you like, like what you do." (even if it does mean I'm spending our last childless New Year's Eve alone!)

I have a few more pictures to add from my previous post. I stopped with the wedding so I guess it makes sense to pick up with the honeymoon.

We looked so young and energetic back then!

The Piton Mountains in Barbados.

Hiking through the rain forest.

Matt vs. the volcano

The hike through the rain forest led us to the waterfall!

A cool fort in Antigua.

Now, you tell me what this next creature might be....

We think it is a muskrat. There are several that live in the pond right outside our back door. I have informed Matt that if I ever look out the window and see an alligator - we're moving. There are a lot of fun animals that live in and near the pond, but this one is the most interesting.

It has orange teeth!!

Matt started slowly backing away after he took this picture and got a nice, clear view of the teeth.

Finally, I will leave you with some shots of Mr. Moose. I know, I know. There's almost always a Moose picture, but for now he's still the baby and I'm home with him all day to take the pictures!

I woke up one morning to the sound of pawing, chewing, and scraping at something. He decided to pull out all of his Christmas toys and help himself.

Busted! I didn't get a picture of the plastic packaging he had started to chew through.

Thank you to all the relatives who sent Christmas gifts in big boxes. We enjoyed the gifts and Moose enjoyed the boxes!

He decided to nap on the bed while using the my robe as a pillow. Rotten cat.

And finally, my favorite.....
Let me provide a little context....
I had to get up and go to the bathroom -- a frequent event for me at this stage in the game. I had been sitting in the bed watching TV with a heating pad on my back. Moose was at the foot of the bed asleep when I got up. So, I get up, go to the bathroom, come back and what do I find......

THIS!!

The little turkey got up and got on my heating pad in the span of sixty seconds. You can't see it very well, but he's cutting his eyes at me in this picture. He knows what he's doing!! ROTTEN!!!

I hope you have a wonderful New Year's Eve and a great start to the new year tomorrow!

A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss

Matt is on call again tonight so it is just Moose and me hanging out around the house. Nothing horribly interesting has happened over the past few days and I have not taken any new pictures. I decided to make this blog about some of the random travels and adventures we've had together. I really wish I had some pictures from our 'early' years together, but alas, that was about 2 digital cameras and 2 computers ago. I think I still have the hard drives from the old computers so it might be possible to dredge out some of those old photos! I might need to make that my mission over the next few months -- there were some entertaining pictures from those days!! Thankfully I do have them as prints, but digital will work better for my blogging purposes. Anyway, here are some random pictures from the past five or so years.

What better place to start than the wedding? Here are some shots from the big day.

It took us awhile to get here, but we made it!

The wedding party

Kudos to the person who decided it would be fun to put balloons in the car. It was great fun for everyone but Matt and me!

Okay, I had planned to add more pictures, but I am running across two problems:
     1. The computer is no longer cooperating to let me upload pictures. It has shut down on me
          three times.
     2. My back is starting to hurt and I guess I need to go find the heating pad.

So, farewell for now and maybe I'll be able to complete this post later. If not, it'll be another post for another day!

Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas!! I hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas with your family and friends. Matt and I had a nice, lazy day at home enjoying our last Christmas with just the two of us. It's hard to believe that this time next year we'll be celebrating with our newest family member. I hope Matt enjoyed sleeping in this morning; it might not happen again for awhile! I made him some pigs in a blanket before we opened up our Christmas gifts. Little Man scored a lot of gifts this year; he (and his parents) are very appreciative!! After a nap and some lounging around the house, we went to see Little Fockers. It was pretty good. I was amazed at the number of people who had the same idea to go to the movies today. We took a walk and then came home to relax on the couch and catch up on some TiVo'd shows. I also decided to take another recipe from my bon appetit magazine and give it a try. It turned out pretty good. Here are some memories from the day...

My attempt at the tortellini recipe

What the magazine says it should look like

Can you guess from this picture where we keep the kitty treats?

And finally, some belly pictures for those of you who have requested them recently. Yes, he's getting big and as a result so am I. Oh, well. At least he's growing!!

Moose was whining as we took the other picture so I decided to humor him and put him in a shot.

Merry Christmas!!!

Clark, that's the gift that keeps on giving throughout the entire year.

It's Christmas Eve!! Anyone who knows me well, knows that my favorite Christmas movie of all time is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. My sweet husband suffers through this movie numerous times each year. This is the movie he put on for me to watch the night he proposed. I was so amazed that he voluntarily put on this movie to watch that I completely missed his proposal and responded to "Will you marry me?" with a nice, sincere "maybe." So, it was only fitting that he gave me one of my Christmas gifts early with the line, "Clark, that's the gift that keeps on giving throughout the entire year." My gift wasn't a subscription to the jelly of the month club, but rather to the magazine bon appetit

Needless to say, this magazine served as an inspiration for a late night trip to Publix and a crazy cooking session today. Matt decided to make some type of breadsticks along with a White Chocolate Espresso Mousse Cake (or something like that). Here are the creations:

the yummy breadsticks

the cake

Now, I thought the cake turned out looking pretty good. Matt's response was, "It doesn't look like the picture in the magazine." So, I looked up the magazine picture. He was right...

His cake doesn't quite look like this, but I'm betting his tastes great!

Moose was very helpful today...

He guarded the dried clothes after I folded them. In fact, I think he's still on guard.

Last night I gave him an early Christmas present from my mom. It was a little door hanger with a ball and feather attached. He liked it so much that two minutes after I gave it to him the ball and feather were no longer attached to the hanger.

Checking it out...

Generating the plan of attack

And off comes the ball

That was fun....let's do it again.

Merry Christmas Eve!!

I Caved -- Let the blogging begin!!

Okay, after toying with the idea for awhile I caved and finally decided to create a blog. I figure this will be a good place for me to post information about our crazy life here in Florida especially after our impending bundle of joy actually arrives. Let me think of where to begin....

Matt and I have been together for 8+ years now. It's crazy to sit back and think about that. We've had a ton of fun adventures along the way. We got married in 2006, lived in Birmingham for awhile, and in June Matt and I moved to Florida after he got a job at Shands-Jacksonville. We took a vacation to Alaska in June before he started work (since he doesn't get much time off) and right after he started orientation we found out we were expecting. It has definitely been an interesting journey for us over the years, but I wouldn't change it for anything! It will be fun to see what our new little one brings to the party! Maybe this blog will bring a little entertainment to your world and let you catch a peek at ours.

Our sweet house in Pelham (yes, it was Halloween)

After Matt's graduation

We have two furry children. Moose lives with us in Florida, but Gracie lives with her grandmother in Beulah. Gracie, as diagnosed by the vet, needs to be able to go outside and sadly we cannot accommodate her in our apartment complex. However, if/when we ever move to a house I plan on bringing her down to join the fun. Moose is quite lonely without his sister, but he gets along as you will see in the next few pictures....

Moose (yep, he's not supposed to be in that window...)

Okay, now it's time for a few pictures of the actual baby that is due to arrive in March. After much deliberation, we decided on the way to the dr. to find out the sex our child. Well, it's a good thing we did because as soon as she put down the probe there was no mistaking that we were having a little boy. And so, here he is....Baby Dimon.

He does not have a name yet, but we are working on it.....kinda. If he were a she we'd be in great shape. If our second attempt at parenthood yields us a girl, we're set! This little booger already takes after his father. From my cravings to the way he sleeps, Matt will not be able to deny this child!!

This is the way Matt sleeps. Hand behind his head. No, Matt doesn't sleep with his feet up in the air, but I bet he would if he could!

I think I'll end on this note tonight. Matt and I were productive yesterday. Little Man's room is coming along. He now has an assembled crib and a chest that will double as a changing table. I will post pictures of the progress of his room, but sadly I do not have a picture of how horrible the room was in the beginning. Imagine boxes everywhere. Then add a few more boxes and you'd be close to what this room was like. I do have a few progression pictures after I decided that my child needed a place to sleep and started to clean. It will be a baby room/office/guest room.

This is after A LOT of cleaning. It was waaaay worse!

That's not even close to the number of boxes that started in this room.

Getting closer. You can see the bed and the shelves are organized. I still need to get the last few things out of the corner.

 The crib.

The chest/changing table.

Well, that's all I have for now. Thanks for reading and I'll try to post again soon!!
